But after half a year, the situation changed rapidly. ARM plans to launch Cortex A12 which is more energy-saving but less cores. The next generation of CPU from Intel, Qualcomm and NV is still quad core. Apple and MOTO insist on the design of dual core. All the signs are telling us that, not only the consumers but also the manufacturers are tired of the games in the number of Smartphone cores. The uproarious “Core War” begins to come to an end.
Several months ago the quad core or eight-core version still is the biggest selling point of Android Smartphones, but why will the “Core War” come to an end so quickly now? The reason in a word is, if the number of cores becomes larger, the cost will be more expensive and the power consumption will be larger, as well as no more room for improvement.
If the manufacturers of mobile processor stubbornly stick to the improvement of PC, the consequences of course will be very serious — do you want to buy a mobile which has 16-core processor but the battery of which can only support half a day? Everyone will say no!
So an insider from the industry of mobile processor said: “ if we regard the competition between hardware as the 1.0 Age of the Android Smartphone, product value and user experience must be called 2.0 Age.”
